Jesuitengarten Riesling GG (Grosses Gewaechs = Grand Cru)

Located on the outskirts of the town “Forst”, in the immediate vicinity of vinyards KIRCHENSTÜCK and UNGEHEUER, the JESUITENGARTEN is one of the best vineyards in the Pfalz, due to its extremely high mineral content. The location is famous for its fine and elegant wines with a high level of complexity.

The name goes back to the properties of the former Jesuit monastery in Neustadt an der Weinstraße. In 1793 the Jordan family bought the vineyard.

WINE

The plot, which is located in the original part of the JESUITGARTEN, was selectively harvested in several rounds in order to obtain only perfectly ripe grapes. These were gently pressed and vinified separately. One part was aged in traditional barrels (“Stueckfass” capacity of 1000-1200 Litres), the other in stainless steel tanks. Both parts were left on the yeast after fermentation until filling. On the nose, this Riesling is initially cool and reserved with a fine herbal spice and citrus scent. With a little air, the fruity components gain in importance and aromas of stone fruit and exotic fruits are increasingly evident. Slightly yeasty on the palate with a fine tannin and acid structure. A wine that will only show its full potential in a few years and until then requires some patience.

Terrain

Sandy clay with lime, sandy loam with limestone boulders, in places high concentration of basalt weathering.
