Deidesheimer Kieselberg Riesling Spaetlese
The Kieselberg is located west of Deidesheim on the slope of the Haardt Mountains and lies between the Leinhöhle and the Mäushöhle.
“Kieselberg” meaning as in New High German: pebbles, coarse-grained, stony sand.
First mention in the 13th century - in 1234 Cuselberch. The location is entirely on a small plateau. A sandstone wall forms the northern border of the mouse cave. The plateau slopes slightly to the south, where it borders on the Lein cave and the Hohenmorgen.
WINE
Highly ripe, healthy grapes were harvested by hand and gently pressed to preserve as much aroma and acidity as possible. The must was pre-clarified by sedimentation in a tank overnight. Fermentation also took place in a refrigerated stainless steel tank. At 7% vol. Alcohol fermentation was stopped by strong cooling and addition of sulfur. The wine then remained on the fine yeast for a few weeks until it was filled in March 2020. Intense aromas of orange zest, red peaches, ripe apples and apricots on the nose. Full-bodied, but elegant with a long finish thanks to the fine acidity. A wine that is still at the very beginning of its development and has a great future ahead of it. This late harvest from the VDP.GROSSE LAGE KIESELBERG goes wonderfully as an aperitif, but also with pies, foie gras, cheese or as a classic dessert wine.
TERRAIN
Loamy to loamy sand, in places with boulders, sandy mudstone, occasional weathered limestone soil, very variable.
